Public Meeting to rescue the Park Cinema

Public Meeting
“Let’s rescue the Park Cinema!”
this Thursday 10th March
8 pm – St Swithun’s Church
Hither Green Lane

The Park Cinema (recently Kids Corner) on Hither Green Lane is up for sale again. And at a considerably reduced price!
This is a rare opportunity for Hither Green to make sure that this most important of locations for the vitality of our area is used in a way that benefit our community.

This former cinema is now an empty shell at the heart of Hither Green that is crying out to be filled with life. There is nowhere in Hither Green with bigger potential of success as a centre for arts and performances, complementing the high street and bringing this community to the next level.

Many will remember that our association started with the aim to rescue the building from what was then a proposal to demolish it and build a block of flats instead.
That first aim was achieved with the refusal of planning consent for that proposal, subsequently we investigated ways to convert it back into the performance space and community asset it had been in the past.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of dialogue with the current owners we couldn’t go past this planning stage.

As the news of the marketing of the building reached us we immediately thought of ways to acquire it.
An action plan is being drafted but to succeed we need the support of the whole local community and that’s why we are calling a public meeting to take place at St Swithun’s Church on Thursday March 10th at 8.00 pm.

Please come along and bring your experience, ideas and support and spread the word to friends and neighbours who may be interested and/or have something to contribute to our project.
